Vexillon

Why Vexillon

Why I built Vexillon

Have you ever thought win rate data wasn't telling you the full story?

  • Space Marine win rates are understated due to the high number of newer players and unoptimised lists.
  • Imperial Knights and Custodes get inflated by stomping low-skill players, but find it much tougher at the top end.
  • Aeldari and Drukhari could even have over-stated win rates, because they're not beginner-friendly and the player base is highly skilled.

I'm trying to build something that cuts through that - modelling pilot skill, unit and list strength, force dispositions and matchups. So we can understand the true power of factions, built at their best, piloted by equal-skill competitive players.

Problems I'm trying to solve

Three things have bugged me since I started, and Vexillon is my answer to them.

1. When you start, you have no idea what to buy.
You waste time, money and energy buying, building and painting models that turn out to be crap on the tabletop. You've paid for them and put hours into them, and then they quite literally lose you the game against any real opponent before you've even started. Vexillon tells you what's actually worth buying, so you can start an army confidently without wasting your money.

2. When you want to get competitive, the existing data isn't good enough.
The data sites out there don't tell you how units actually perform, and they don't properly account for matchups or for win rates at equal skill without just falling into sample size issues. So without that, how do you optimise your army without buying and painting most of the collection and playing hundreds of games to find out what works? I couldn't play hundreds of games - I've got a demanding job and a two year old. So I started doing my own analysis instead, using it to build lists that let me punch above my experience level and take on the established meta. Vexillon is that analysis, done properly.

3. Prepping for a tournament is overwhelming.
There are quite literally millions of combinations of faction, detachment, datasheet and abilities. How are you supposed to understand the meta you're about to face? What you need is analysis that tells you which detachments and units you actually have to research, understand and tech for. Otherwise the only way to get good is reps, reps and more reps - and most of us don't have time for that.

I built Vexillon to be the thing I wish I'd had when I started, and the thing I now use to prep myself.

Release Schedule

Full release expected week commencing 20th July

We've done a beta test (25 users, full tournament data) and replicated the meta, initial buy recommendations and proper unit-level analytics closely. We think we need 4 weekends' worth of 11th tournament data to power all the features, but we'll be assessing what we can release each week - and how to quickly adapt to quarterly/emergency balance patches.
